The Bone Wars: The True Story of an Epic Battle to Find Dinosaur Fossils
Jane Kurtz & Alexander Vidal
Did you know that many of the dinosaur skeletons you see in museums are rooted in a scientific battle between two paleontologists? O. C. Marsh and Edward Cope met in 1863 and bonded over their shared love of fossils, becoming the best of friends … until the day Marsh discovered an error in Cope’s work, and the Bone Wars began!
At this event, participants will design their own version of the Stegosaurus that started the Bone Wars between Marsh and Cope. As junior paleontologists, you’ll also do some dino-digging to discover fossils and piece together the dino bones.
The Round Prairie Library opened in 2017 and was named in honour of the La Prairie Round (or Round Prairie) Métis, who were a community of buffalo hunters that established a wintering site near Dakota Whitecap in the late 1800s. In the 1920s and 1930s many in the community were forced to migrate to Saskatoon in search of work, and by the 1940s they had established a permanent and close-knit community near the current site of the library. This library includes an Innovation Lab and Video Game Room.
