Performers on Parade features professional performers in the areas of music, dance, theatre and more! Each week, a different performer will visit each library in the city.
Born and raised in Saskatoon, Lawrence Roy has been hoop dancing since 1989. His first teacher, Delvin Kennedy, taught Lawrence the style of 21 hoops in the St. Mary’s Hoop Dance Troupe. Entering high school, his second teacher, Patrick Nippi, taught Lawrence the style of 17 hoops. Today, he dances with 30. Lawrence has passed on his teachings to his children who have all taught others on their own. He loves to teach anyone that wants to learn. Some of the many places you will find Lawrence are Wanuskewin, White Buffalo Youth Lodge, Friendship Centre and numerous schools in and around Saskatoon. Lawrence brings many teachings of the hoop, its origin and humour in his performance and stories.

The Carlyle King Library officially opened Oct 16, 1979 and is located in the Cosmo Civic Centre. Carlyle King was the first library to be part of a multi-purpose facility in Saskatoon. It was named in honour of Carlyle King who, in addition to a distinguished academic career, was actively involved in the Saskatchewan Library Advisory Council, the Saskatchewan Library Association and the Saskatoon Public Library Board (1955-1972).
