An exploration of Saskatchewan's prairie landscape in diverse media undertaken by two friends.
Common Ground runs from Jun 26 – Jul 24 and the opening reception is Saturday, Jun 29 from 2 – 4 pm.
This exhibition is an exploration of Saskatchewan's prairie landscape in diverse media between two friends. Diane Larouche Ellard works in encaustic, mixed media, and paint. Cindy Hoppe is a fibre artist using dyes and thread.
The two artists have shared their love for the prairie landscape south of the Battlefords for many years. They regularly take photo trips in the area to build up reference material. Each then returns the reference material to their studio and transforms it using their media of choice. At times they use the same photo and produce work that maintains a connection to the source while their chosen media and mark-making takes them on different paths.
The friendship between the artists creates a unique dynamic, allowing each to place their individual fingerprint on the pieces created. Their expressions of similar subject matter are transformed by the tools and techniques they use to create something wholly new but connected.
