Mika Lafond is a graduate of the MFA in Writing program at the U of S and the author of nipê wânîn, a collection of poems written in both Cree and English. She is a member of the Muskeg Lake Cree Nation and took a great interest in creative writing while attending ITEP at the University of Saskatchewan through a mentorship with author Bill Robertson. Lafond and her cousin, Joi Arcand, started Kimiwan Zine in 2012 as an outlet for Indigenous visual artists and creative writers. Lafond has worked in education for 10 years, has written resources for teachers and began teaching at the U of S in 2015. Her writing is influenced by her love for her culture, language and the importance of education. Lafond lives in Saskatoon.
The Frances Morrison Central Library officially opened on May 28, 1966. This facility was named after Frances Morrison, who served as Saskatoon Public Library’s (SPL) chief librarian from 1961 to 1980. The Frances Morrison Central Library is the largest of SPL’s nine libraries and houses a dedicated Children’s Department, Fine Arts Department, Local History Room, Theatre, a computer lab, Innovation Lab, SPL's Writer in Residence, Accessibility Services and various administrative offices.
