Guest speakers will discuss sustainability with a local focus.
Harold Orr, P. Eng. (retired), C.M., will speak on a retrofit he performed on an apartment in Regina where the tenants had been using the oven to help heat the house. Where previously the cost for heating was $1,800 for four months, it now costs $900 for the entire year. Learn how to make the most cost-effective changes to any residential building to conserve energy and increase comfort.

He was one of the principal designers of the Saskatchewan Conservation House, which in 1977 acted as a laboratory for the development of many previously unheard of building techniques that are now standard on the best performing houses in the world. The Saskatchewan Conservation House is credited as being the catalyst behind the Canadian R-2000 program as well as the PassivHaus program that started in Germany and eventually became the global Passive House movement. Harold has received multiple awards over his career. He was awarded the Order of Canada in 2017 for his outstanding commitment and contributions to Canada's construction sector.
